John Stetson, CEO of Stoner’s Pizza Joint

The Upreneur podcast has partnered up with SCORE, hosted by Jeremy Straub, to help bring engaging conversations with today’s top leaders and business owners. In today’s episode, we spoke with John Stetson, CEO of Stoner’s Pizza. John is able to run a successful business because he sticks to his principles and his budget. With his experience in private equality, John was able to see the differences between a good business and a great one. He used those learnings to his advantage, growing his business to 9 stores in 9 months.

John Stetson is the Founder and Managing Member of Sunset Bay Capital, LLC, a private equity firm based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. For over 10 years, Mr. Stetson has helped build companies across all industries. He invests and works with the founders and innovators through all stages of growth including IPO’s and Mergers & Acquisitions. Since May 2020, Stetson has served as Chief Executive Officer of Stoner’s Pizza Joint, where he owns 9 units in the FL, GA, and SC markets.

Serial Entrepreneur John Stetson, the owner of Stoner’s Pizza Joint Fort Lauderdale, has always been a pet lover. As a young child, his family worked with a local animal rescue to adopt his beloved bichon mix Max who was his dog for over 19 years. With that love of animals that was instilled by early years, he decided to reach out to the Humane Society of Broward County, and a partnership was born!

Each week over 500 flyers are included on pizza boxes to promote dogs, cats, and other pets currently available for adoption. In an effort to further promote #adoptdontshop, John will generously offer a free year of pizza (1 large pizza per week) to anyone who adopts a pet from the flyer and sends in a picture.

Stoner’s Pizza Joint is best known for stepping up during the COVID-19 quarantine and committing to donate 10,000 pizza slices to those in need. What started as a need to help students who didn’t have lunch during quarantine, has since expanded to include medical staff, first responders, and families that are food insecure. They supported numerous organizations including, the Salvation Army, Broward Health, Peanut Butter & Jelly Project, Covenant House Florida, Arc Broward, Memorial Regional Hospital, Hope South Florida, FLITE Center, Broward County Public Schools, Mobile Pantry of Broward, to name a few.

In today’s episode, we spoke with Jason Ditkofsky, President of McNeill Signs and Channel Letter USA. Jason Ditkofsky says the reasons for his success were because of his humbleness and confidence. The five lucky winners will receive services including – custom design, channel letter manufacturing, permit acquisition, and complete installation. Winners will be contacted via email throughout the month and be announced through McNeill Signs’ Facebook and Instagram. McNeill Signs hope to reach any and all worthy businesses who could use this much needed assistant during these difficult times.

Keir Dillon, Founder of Radiant Flo

The Upreneur podcast has partnered up with SCORE, hosted by Jeremy Straub, to help bring engaging conversations with today’s top leaders and business owners. In today’s episode, we spoke with Keir Dillon, Founder of Radiant Flo. Keir Dillon was a professional snowboarder before he took on the entrepreneurial journey. He shared how his experiences from snowboarding shaped him for business and that pain was his greatest teacher. Maintaining a balance between doing research and doing key activities that move the needle is vital to his success. You have to be aware of what is going on within your business, and rather than forcing it, take a step back to reevaluate your situation. Keir didn’t worry about how he was going to get into stores, but how he could reach his 1000 true fans.

Keir Dillon is a former professional snowboarder widely regarded as one of the world’s best riders in the sport. He is also a noted media personality, serving as a television host and sideline reporter for ESPN, X Games, and Fuel TV. Andrea Lisbona, CEO and Founder of Touchland

The Upreneur podcast has partnered up with SCORE, hosted by Jeremy Straub, to help bring engaging conversations with today’s top leaders and business owners. In today’s episode, we spoke with Andrea Lisbona, CEO, and Founder of Touchland.  Andrea has seen great success and her accomplishments speak for themselves.  We learned more on how she accumulated 10 times her revenue year to date with 5 months left in the cycle, her growth due to her self learning and quick reaction to obstacles, and how growing a business with your spouse can be rewarding and challenging.

Millennial entrepreneur Andrea Lisbona is setting out to disrupt the stale hand sanitizer industry, which is projected to grow to $5.95B globally by the end of 2021 (more than a third of that industry is in the United States). Inspired by innovators such as Steve Jobs & Emily Weiss who married great function with great design, Andrea developed Touchland, a revolutionary brand of hand sanitizers that combine sleek, functional packaging with non-sticky, moisturizing and luxurious-feeling formulas that come in eight amazing scents.

Lisbona ran a Kickstarter campaign in July 2018, which resulted in the brand reaching 450% of its initial fundraising goal and more than 1,300 pre-orders for the product in just one month. By the time the brand officially launched in November 2018, that number had increased to more than 1,500 people on the waiting list. Since their launch, Touchland has enjoyed 20% MoM revenue increases (thanks to their successful social media and digital marketing strategies) and is gearing up for the next phase of their business: the launch of a B2B product for high-traffic locations, retail distribution and more.

Andrea is originally from Barcelona and relocated to Miami in 2018 in order to oversee the growth of Touchland from the US. She holds an MBA from ESADE and was a featured expert speaker at the European Commission.

Ian Bentley, Co-Founder & CEO of Parker Clay

The Upreneur podcast has partnered up with SCORE, hosted by Jeremy Straub, to help bring engaging conversations with today’s top leaders and business owners. In today’s episode, we sat down with Ian Bentley, Co-Founder & CEO of Parker Clay, and talked about how Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and this has allowed Ian to create jobs and opportunities to empower the people of Ethiopia. Parker Clay is deeply committed to producing every product ethically and sustainably without compromising on quality, while also transforming the community through trade.

In 2011 everything changed for Ian Bentley when he and his wife Brittany traveled to Ethiopia to adopt their daughter. Not only did they fall in love with the country, the culture, and the people they met, but they also saw first hand both a need and an opportunity to develop a company that could meet that need. Ian and his family moved to Ethiopia in 2012 to help support vulnerable women and children, and it was there they founded Parker Clay as a way to further transform the community through trade.

With a background in business development and a passion to enact change, Ian, along with his wife Brittany, laid the framework for Parker Clay while living in Ethiopia. Paige Held, Founder & CEO of Yoga Joint

In today’s episode, we sat down with Paige Held, Founder & CEO of Yoga Joint, and talked about how she pivoted her business and started offering virtual online yoga classes. Paige talks about surrounding your self with the right people in order to follow your passion and how she built a culture and community around her business.

Paige Held is the co-owner and founder of Yoga Joint and has been teaching yoga for 22 years. Paige embarked on her yoga journey at the young age of 16 in South Florida. Five years into her practice at 20 years old, she became certified to teach yoga and has spent numerous hours continuing her yoga education through attending workshops, intensives, retreats and other teacher trainings working with some of the most globally renowned yoga teachers.

Ten years into her teaching career, Paige created Hot Fusion Flow,  her own unique and innovative style of yoga which was developed alongside her best friend Kelly Green. This style of yoga blends and gains inspiration from various styles of yoga such as Bikram, Ashtanga, Power Yoga, Anusara, and Shiva Rea.

Paige’s intention in her yoga classes is to utilize the physical exercise to bring mental awareness to a heightened state where her students are then able to realize where they are mentally, physically, and emotionally in their surroundings and to respond rather than to react. She is constantly encouraging her students to let go, have fun and find freedom in their bodies, minds and spirits.  She draws much of her inspiration as a yoga teacher from her most important role as a mother to her 2 children and 2 stepchildren. Her classes are physically challenging and mentally enlightening with the goal of enabling real people to better manage real life situations. In Paige’s classes, her students can expect a challenging vinyasa flow with a heartfelt message and energetic music.

Jeff Ransdell, Co-Founder of Rokk3r Fuel

The Upreneur podcast has partnered up with SCORE, hosted by Jeremy Straub, to help bring engaging conversations with today’s top leaders and business owners. In today’s episode, we sat down with Jeff Ransdell, Co-Founder of Rokk3r Fuel, and talked about how the world is changing rapidly and technology is at the forefront of this change, so everyone, including the government, small and large businesses must invest in technology.

Jeff Ransdell is a venture capitalist building a portfolio of exponential technology companies at Wynwood Arts District-based venture capital firm Rokk3r Fuel, which he co-founded in 2017 following a departure from the world of private wealth management. Jeff approaches venture capital with a signature “founder focused, investor driven” mindset, shaped by two decades as a top executive of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. As a managing director and market executive of the financial powerhouse, he managed more than $130 billion of global private client investment assets, a P&L of $2 billion, and over 2,000 employees across the bank’s Southeast Wealth Management Division. His transition to venture capital was motivated by what he saw as mounting evidence that opportunities to shape the economy and capitalize on innovation were steadily shifting from the public markets to the private markets. In the face of much skepticism, Jeff chose Miami, Florida, as the home base for Rokk3r Fuel, armed with an unparalleled rolodex and emboldened to leverage the city’s untapped resources and advantages. Rokk3r Fuel currently manages a $200 million fund and has a portfolio of more than 20 tech companies, including PredaSAR, Soundtrack Your Brand, Taxfyle and Bolt Mobility.

[1:04] Jeff runs a large venture capital firm.

[3:51] what this crisis has highlighted from the gap perspective is that there is a tremendous amount of need to get upgraded from a technology perspective.

[9:45] if you are a C.E.O of a major cooperation, your Job is to maximize share hold stock price.

[10:17] when you think about venture capital, you are investing in a company that you believe as an investor is going to fill a gap in a major cooperation strategy.

[21:37] you need to understand who your audiences are.

[23:48] there are three things people hold close to their hearts, one is their family, one is their health, and one is their money.

[23:57] when you are giving the opportunity to participate in one of does three things, you have to do it right.

[24:14] our mantra is “Investor driven and founder focused” but it all starts with the investor, because without the investor none of these companies exist.

[24:44] you need a mind of a capitalist but the heart of a social worker.

[36:58] if you are a successful person, you are successful for a reason and the enemy of great is good.
